Forgot about them, huh? Kind of a bad seed for the women, who were ranked in the top 15 for ten weeks and finished at #16/19 overall. The women will face Auburn in Stanford, California. GW won 68-66 at then #16 Auburn earlier in the season.
So how tough is GW's road to match last year's Sweet 16 finish? Assuming they get past a good Auburn team (hardly a reward for the good season) they'll face either 3-seed Cal or 13-seed San Diego in Stanford, which is maybe an hour from Cal's campus. After that, probably 2-seed Rutgers, who beat Joe McKeown's bunch 67-42 earlier in the year at the Smith Center. Tough stuff.
However, one ESPN commentator likes GW - Graham Hays picks the Colonials as a cinderella, and he also singles out Kim Beck as a possible surprise star. Cool.
But win or lose, the Colonials have made their 6th straight NCAA tournament, credit to all the players and coach McKeown. The game is the 22nd at 2 pm and it'll be on ESPN, and here's more from GWSports.com.
Anybody going down? Let me know in the comments.
