GW steals Maryland's turtle

I discovered this browsing the fantastic GW and Foggy Bottom Historical Encyclopedia, a wiki made by the University archivist. It's a great site.

So back in 1948 when GW still had a football team, some students, possibly SAE members, went to College Park and kidnapped Testudo, the Terps' big bronze statue of a turtle. The story is funny, it includes a letter from the Maryland student body president and a poem about the turtle that says he went to Reno and then got rejected from GW. And apparently about 500 Maryland kids came down and surrounded the SAE house before some SAE folks defused the situation. Pretty interesting stuff.
