GW had their athletic awards banquet the other day and Kenan Cole from the women's hoops team won GW's top women's senior athlete award. Men's crew rower Jon D'Alba got the men's award, while Carl Elliott was named MVP of the men's basketball team and Kim Beck was the MVP of the women's squad. No surprise there, though Mo Rice could have been considered. However, since Carl is the winningest player in GW history, I think he deserves it.
As for the basketball awards, Damian Hollis was rookie of the year, Travis King was the team's academic achievement winner, and Dokun Akingbade was most improved. Elliot also won most steals, best free throw percentage, the defense award, and most assists. Maureece Rice got the offense award and three pointers award, Hermann Opoku won the strength and conditioning award, so I guess he got bigger and stronger, and Regis Koundjia got the desire award, which is wholly appropriate.
